Maktaba Moments: Toronto Pop-Up, Thanks Joey, & HOME AWAY FROM HOME

On June 28, Peace Collective on Trinity Street in Toronto's Distillery District hosted us for our anniversary collection pop-up :) We were so excited to be back!
To celebrate our 3rd Anniversary, we decided to release an album with last year’s resident artist, Thanks Joey. Produced in our majlis over the course of a week, Thanks Joey invited our community to take part in the recording. This dance and hip-hop instrumental album features Iraqi and Palestinian samples with guest features from our community and beyond. Serving as a sonic journey for our tiny space, this album is one of the favourite art pieces to come out of MAKTABA.
To mark these amazing milestones, we collaborated with Peace Collective to bring you our Home Away From Home collection. It was a very personal and meaningful project that involved many hearts and minds, from Yassin to Yanal to Catherine to Sama to Bîstyek.
