ON FEB 20 | Join us for a double book launch and conversation with authors Anjali Nath and Esmat Elhalaby.
Our next Maktaba Moment welcomes Anjali Nath and Esmat Elhalaby to launch their respective books, A Thousand Paper Cuts: US Empire and the Bureaucratic Life of War and Parting Gifts of Empire: Palestine and India at the Dawn of Decolonization.
The two authors will be in conversation with each other about their research and the thematic overlaps in both of their works, spanning empire, power and process.
ABOUT THE AUTHORS:
Anjali Nath is Assistant Professor in Institute of Communication, Culture, Information, and Technology at the University of Toronto Mississauga. Her first book, A Thousand Paper Cuts: US Empire and the Bureaucratic Life of War, was published by Duke University Press in 2025.
Esmat Elhalaby is an Assistant Professor of Transnational History at the University of Toronto. His first book, Parting Gifts of Empire: Palestine and India at the Dawn of Decolonization was published by the University of California Press in 2025. He works primarily on the history of colonial and anti-colonial ideas from the nineteenth century to the present.
