Come visit the Growing A.R.C X MAKTABA consultation library! The selected books in our co-curated section of the majlis represent a cross-section of topics ranging from fibre arts to ecological impact to storytelling inspired from the plant world. An extension of MAKTABA’s “Our Planet” Category, these books aim to nurture a living ecosystem of learning: one that honours the voices and perspectives of descendants of Ancient Peoples. And together, as a community, we can move beyond resilience to flourishing through collective action and care.
Maktaba Bookshop and Growing A.R.C’s collaboration brings together two community-driven spaces in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal that care deeply about collective learning, connection, and local impact. An independent bookshop and versatile cultural space, MAKTABA is an artist-run, deeply-rooted space invested in representation and culture. Growing A.R.C., firmly planted in the local fibre, textiles, and farming communities, brings hands-on knowledge, ecological awareness, and a commitment to sustainable systems through material culture and the farm-to-closet process.
This partnership supports local creatives and educators but also empowers community members to see themselves as active participants in shaping a just and regenerative future.
It’s about building a community where learning is shared, traditions are honoured, and folks grow together through their agency and self-determination. This partnership aims to help strengthen local networks and make space for collective care, creativity, and curiosity.
