Living in a tent means enduring hellish heat during the day, with flies getting inside and never stopping to annoy you. And at night, it's the opposite: it's cold. You have to put on two or three blankets. You wake up hurting all over, because you're sleeping on a deformed floor. Living in a tent means depending on humanitarian aid and eating nothing but tinned food. It means searching every day for a place to charge our phones and rechargeable lamps. Living in a tent means queuing for food and water. To cook, you need a clay oven and wood. When you don't have wood, you use anything. Many people burn cardboard or plastic. We breathe in this plastic smoke almost all day long. We do our laundry in buckets, wearing the same clothes for three or four days to save water. For the toilet, we dig a hole... Living in a tent means constantly watching out for insects, snakes and scorpions. It's a life of humiliation. But this tent is a symbol of Palestinian resilience. We've made it a political symbol, to say that we're going home. Because one day, all this will come to an end...
